Modera Sedici
2700 16th St., NW
(Former Italian Embassy)
Built in 1925, the Old Italian Embassy is among the most notable mansions commis sioned for Sixteenth Street. The former embassy is a distinguished example of Beaux Arts design in the Italian Renaissance style. The building served as the Italian Embassy from 1925 through 1977. Upon the Italian delegation's relocation to Villa Firenze in the Forest Hills neighborhood, the former embassy sat empty through various failed development attempts. Valor purchased the property and successfully achieved both zoning and Historical Preservation Review Board approvals for 135 high-end residential units. The project was later constructed by Valor's venture partner, MillCreek Residential, as the Modera Sedici Apartments.
